Uppsala Health Summit is a collaborative effort, initiated by a partnership of actors who believe in the power of open dialogues to address some of today’s global health challenges. We are excited to share that Örebro University has become our new partner this year! The Vice-chancellor of Örebro University, Johan Schnürer, shared some reflections about this new partnership and expectations for the summit.

Uppsala Health Summit has evolved into a key arena for advanced discussions on the interplay between science and policy in broad health issues. Örebro University can contribute strong research within a number of fields,” says Professor Johan Schnürer, Vice-Chancellor, Örebro University.

Johan Schnürer, professor of microbiology, is more than familiar with the work undertaken within Uppsala Health Summit, since he, in his then capacity as pro vice-chancellor at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), was involved at its launch.

Already then, I highly valued the discerning dialogue between universities, government authorities, industry, healthcare and other organisations", says Professor Johan Schnürer.

With their long-term strategic initiative “Food and Health”, Örebro University is able to contribute in practical terms to this year’s theme – Healthy Lives from Sustainable Food Systems. “Food and Health” stretches across disciplines with research ranging from gastronomy to gastroenterology. It gathers researchers from fields such as sports and healthcare sciences, biomedicine, media and communication studies, computer science, psychology, economics, sociology, political science, toxicology, biology and bioinformatics.

Örebro is one of seven universities in Sweden with a faculty of medicine and our particularly strong research within environmental chemistry, ageing, and not least AI and robotics is sure to contribute to future Uppsala Health Summits,” says Professor Schnürer.

This new partnership also brings advantages for Örebro University.

This collaboration has the potential to expand our contacts with the two universities in Uppsala, as well as with government authorities at a national level. It will also allow us to build new exciting international networks", says Johan Schnürer.

In the process of drafting new policies, Örebro University can contribute expertise from a range of fields relating to health”, he continues.
