Public lecture during Uppsala Health Summit

During next week’s Uppsala Health Summit on antibiotic resistance, Dr. Manica Balasegaram from the international Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) will give a public lecture addressing this topic on June 1. Journalists also have the opportunity to attend the conference plenary sessions on June 2-3.

NOTE! Registration is required from media wishing to attend the conference.
The June 1 lecture is open to the general public.

Following last week’s decision to adopt the WHO Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance, the international Uppsala Health Summit meeting, to be held on June 2-3, symbolises the important next step: to convert the plan into concrete measures. Participants include representatives from a broad spectrum of influential international players. Due to a US initiative of President Barack Obama, some last-minute programme changes have been made. Dr. Ramanan Laxminarayan will now give his presentation via a video-link directly from Washington, for example.

In conjunction with the summit, Dr. Manica Balasegaram of the international MSF will hold a public lecture in the main Uppsala University building where he will talk about the problems and challenges that MSF encounters in its work. Dr. Balasegaram is president of the MSF Access Campaign, which started in 1999 to promote access to basic medicines, diagnostics and vaccines in resource-poor environments.
